John is the owner and head coach of Tipping Point BJJ. John is a pioneer for BJJ in Iowa and is one of the most experienced coaches and decorated competitors in the state. He began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2006 and received his black belt in 2016 making him one of the first black belts in the state.

John is an elite competitor who has won numerous championships including gold medals at every belt level at International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation events and has medaled at major international competitions including the Pan American and Nogi World Championships.

Over the years John has held several coaching positions including at the University of Iowa and the world renowned mixed martial arts gym, Miletich Fighting Systems. After graduating from the University of Iowa with a Bachelors degree in Economics, John devoted all of his attention to growing and building his team at Tipping Point BJJ.

John’s coaching style blends an analytical and technical approach with vigorous training sessions to develop his students mentally and physically. His students have gone on to win titles at the highest levels of the sport and many have opened their own Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academies spreading BJJ across the state of Iowa and beyond. John’s diverse teaching and competition background along with his analytical approach to the sport allow him to cater to students at any level from first day students without any experience to elite competitors or UFC veterans.
