John Gutta

John is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and one of the most experienced coaches and most decorated competitors in Iowa. He began training in 2006 and has since held coaching positions at the University of Iowa and the world renowned Mixed Martial Arts gym, Miletich Fighting Systems. In addition to his teaching,  John is an elite competitor who has won numerous championships including gold medals at every belt level at International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation events and has traveled and competed at the national and international level. John’s diverse teaching and competition background along with his analytical approach to the sport allow him to cater to students at any level from UFC veterans to first day students without any experience.


Jared Vevera

Jared has been training for over ten years and coaching for half of them.  He received his brown belt under John Gutta on 11/12/2020 and continues to commit his time to teaching and is our dedicated six a.m class instructor!




Claire North

Women's class instructor

Rank: Black Belt


Claire North has been training and competing for 10 years and medaled in many high level tournaments including taking silver at the Pan American IBJJF tournament in 2020.

She is Iowa's first female Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and has started the premier all womens program at Tipping Point!


Dane Packingham

Dane has been the Tipping Point no gi guru for many years and is an experienced and knowledgeable coach. He is one of John Gutta's first ''home grown'' black belts and brings a unique perspective to our coaching staff.
